APF Eriva announced the pool price for the 2020 harvest yesterday (Tuesday 20 July). The presale pool outperforms the non presale pool in a year of extremely difficult market.
The average price in the pre-sale pool is €8,31 per 100 kilos. For the pool without pre-sales, the average price is €7,60 per 100 kilos. These are the average prices for delivery in week 13. This is significantly lower than the average price over the period 2010 to 2020 - €14,752 per 100 kilos for the pool with pre-sales and €15,695 per 100 kilos in the pool without pre-sales - but given the market trend, a reasonably good result.
When looking at the breakdown by race, Agria stands out in both a positive and negative sense. For export, a plus of €0,75 per 100 kilos has been achieved for this variety compared to the basic price, while for processing this is a minus of €0,50. Because almost all sports competitions and other events have been cancelled, there was little demand for fresh fries, an important sales channel for Agria. Innovator is the most important variety for APF Eriva and an increase of €0,25 per 100 kilos was achieved on the basic price.
Price rose too little, too late
"We will not arrive at a cost-covering price for the grower in the pool this year," says Martin de Visser, who is responsible for sales at APF Eriva. "The extremely low prices at the end of the previous season continued seamlessly into this season. It was only from January that the price started to rise slightly, but that was too little and too late. Satisfied is not the right word, but we have the maximum extracted in the difficult market."
The pool remains an interesting instrument for sales, according to De Visser. "Over the harvest years 2015 to 2020, we achieved an average result of €15,218 in the pool with pre-sales and €16,490 without pre-sales. The pool thus dampens the vagaries of the market."
