The Belgapom quotation makes the first early potato quotation today (Friday 23 July). This was set at €15 per 100 kg. Incidentally, there has been very little trade in early potatoes in the past week.
This is a logical consequence of the disappointing hectare yield, the low underwater weights and fine sorting. In fact, until now the early potatoes were not suitable for processing fries, which meant that the potatoes from the old harvest could have made a significant increase in price. The very last boxes with Agria, Victoria and Fontane, for example, currently cost between €16 and €19. Belgapom also showed color by putting €17 on the board, the highest quotation of the season, but still a poor price considering the costs that long-term storage now entails.
Find connection
It will be quite a Houdini act to further establish the connection between old and new potatoes. What was striking was the above-mentioned first quotation from Belgapom for early potatoes. A more 'shot in the air' quote; That money (€15) can't buy anything. The German Reka gave a price indication later in the day of €16 to €17, but there is little supply for that either.
Growers don't want to offer; first fulfill the contract obligation and then look further, seems to be the motto. The coming weeks, especially the first 2 weeks of August, will be exciting. The first quotation appears to be a bottom for the time being.
