Listing suitable for chips potatoes adjusted

10 August 2021 - Eric de Lijster

The PAT Index, the reference price for potatoes suitable for chips, will be adjusted for the new 2021 harvest season. This mainly relates to the selection of varieties and the weighting of these varieties, reports DCA-Markets, the price reporting agency that developed the PAT Index.

The adjustments are made on the basis of last season's seed potato area. The PAT Index is continuously calculated from the transactions that the participating parties, the processing industry and the trade in the Netherlands, are obliged to report to the Brancheorganisation Akkerbouw. All those transactions are calculated back to the standard of potatoes suitable for chips, 40 millimeters upwards for delivery within a month.

Weighting varieties PAT Index 2021
race group Breeds Weighting
Agria group Agria, Marquis, Victoria From 22,43% to 25,09%
Innovator group Innovator, Invory Russet, Lady Anna, Marquis, Russet Burbank From 28,23% to 27,00%
Fontane group Fontane, Amora, Challenger, Miranda, Ramos, Royal, Bintje From 49,33% to 47,91%

The basis of the PAT index is thus made trades that the sector is required to report. "This makes it an excellent indication of the market for potato chips suitable for chips in the Netherlands. And therefore also an excellent price or benchmark to make agreements between grower and buyer, for example. Or to compare the performance of a pool with," reports René van 't Riet, manager of DCA-Markets.

The PAT Index is accessible to everyone with a free Boerenbusiness account. You can get the listing here find. The quotation of Monday, August 9, 2021 is €20,34 per 100 kilos. The specifications of the PAT Index 2021 can be found on the DCA-Markets website.
