After a relatively late switch to the new harvest by the potato processing industry, which resulted in a quiet August, the factories are now running at full speed. The monthly record for September has almost been broken.
In September, the industry in the Netherlands processed 343.600 tons of potatoes. This is evident from the processing figures published today (Wednesday, October 20) by the Association for the Potato Processing Industry (VAVI). The processors have therefore got a good taste of it. Only in 2019, slightly more potatoes were processed in September, at 345.800 tons.
Of the potatoes, 39,6%, or 135.900 tons, came from abroad. Last year it was 37,9% in the same month. A total of 151.600 tons of pre-fried fries and 28.600 tons of other products were produced in September. The processing efficiency is 53,4%. That is just below the five-year average of 54,2%. It therefore appears that the quality, which has caused quite a bit of concern, has not been too bad so far for the potatoes from the field.
