The potato processing industry was still running at a brisk pace in December. Compared to November, slightly fewer potatoes have been processed, but compared to the same in recent years, the French fries industry still achieves an excellent result.
A total of 2021 tons of potatoes were processed into fries and other frozen potato products in December 323.600. This is evident from the figures published today (Wednesday, January 26) by the Association for the Potato Processing Industry (Vavi). In the last ten years, processing regularly fell well below 300.000 tons. Only in 2015 and 2016 were more potatoes processed in December, 324.300 and 329.000 tonnes respectively.
Of the potatoes processed in December, 154.700, or 47,8%, came from abroad. A total of 142.900 tons of pre-fried fries were produced and 29.100 tons of other products. The processing efficiency is 53,2%. That is almost the same as the previous month when the return was 53,1%.
