Agrico and Nedato want to bundle table potatoes

28 April 2022 - Jurphaas Lugtenburg

Potato cooperatives Nedato and Agrico, including its subsidiary Leo de Kock, are investigating the possibilities of intensive cooperation in table potatoes. In doing so, they aim to collectively market their range of table potatoes. The companies want to find out whether and how the three of them can respond to the changed market conditions in fresh, unprocessed table potatoes.

The parties will write this in a message to the members. The needs of consumers have changed structurally. According to the companies, demand is increasingly shifting from traditional potato dishes to more versatile applications. In addition, customers are increasingly asking for suppliers who can offer a total solution, and the future prospects of table potato growers in a shrinking market should not be lost sight of. Agrico, Leo de Kock and Nedato want to explore the possibilities of responding to these changes and the increasingly conscious choice that consumers are making. The companies also mention the continuous investments in innovative potato varieties and a further increase in quality varieties. Together they see more opportunities for this than individually.

Perspective for the growers
"By bundling the range of high-quality potatoes and marketing the full yield of our growers, we offer a good perspective for this specialized potato cultivation", says Wim van de Ree, director of Nedato, in the message. "We are directing the available acreage for consumption cultivation to increasingly high-quality varieties and quality classes," explains Jan van Hoogen, director of Agrico. "With this we offer a good perspective for our growers and we optimally adjust the supply to the changed demand of our customers."

What exactly the collaboration should look like is part of the research. The results of this are expected at the end of 2022. For the feasibility of the plans, the relevant legislation and regulations, such as competition rules, are taken into account.
