The acreage of seed potatoes for 2022 has again decreased slightly. This is evident from the NAK declaration figures. Agria is losing most hectares, while the Innovator variety is showing an increase for the first time in years. There is also a lot of expansion in the acreage in the highest classes.
In total there are 41.282 hectares of seed potatoes this season, a decrease of 1,6% with 678 hectares less than in 2021, according to the figures of the NAK. The acreage of high-quality seed potatoes, on the other hand, has risen sharply. The PB class has increased from 12.736 to 14.184 hectares and the S class has also increased from 3.238 to 3.403. In the middle and lower classes, on the other hand, a decrease can be seen. The SE and E class decreased by 1.107 and 769 hectares. Class A also fell by 159 hectares.
Agria loses most ground
It is no surprise that Fontane is again the largest variety at 5.437 hectares. The variety increased by 3% this year, 155 hectares more than last season. Spunta is in second place with a contraction of 2 hectares to 108 in total. The third largest variety, Agria, lost significantly with almost 3.721% to 9 hectares, making it the big loser in terms of hectares. In recent years, the variety has increased by several percent, with the peak last season being 2.801 hectares. Innovator, on the other hand, sees an increase from 400 hectares to 113 in total after a number of years of contraction. The last variety to complete the top 2.256 is Arizona. The variety that enjoyed export to Africa this year increased to 5 with 1.583 hectares.
