Potato variety Agria stands head and shoulders above the rest in the potato pool of Schaap Holland from Biddinghuizen. Innovator sets competitive prices in the pool. The pool prices of table potatoes also score better compared to last season.
potato company Sheep Holland recently presented its pool prices to growers. The company has converted a lot of volume, especially in the last three months of the season. In April and May, it was able to take advantage of the rapidly rising market, after which it collapsed in June. Favorable growing conditions for the early potatoes meant that the new crop became available earlier than previously thought.
Results considerably higher
The weighted average pool price of the presale pool for the 2021-2022 season is €20,74 per 100 kilos. For the pool without presale, that's €23,03. The pool with bottom comes out at €19,70. These are results that are well above the level of last season lying down. In the autumn months, the potato company sought cover on the potato futures market. In retrospect, this appears to have been a good move as the market slackened in the final phase. The above prices apply to a product of 40 millimeters upwards delivered in week 13 and exclusive of VAT. Schaap does not charge potato tare for the Innovator variety.

€30 for Agria
With €23,37 per 100 kilos in the pool without presale, Agria scores highest among the industrial varieties. At the end of the season – with box storage and mechanical cooling – the pool result is €30 per 100 kilos for top quality. On top of the prices of the Agria variety, an extra premium of €1,50 is paid for box storage.
Schaap pays a PlanetProof fee for all their table potato varieties. At the top is Regina with a price of €28,68 followed by Nicola and Laudine. Schaap has a separate pool price for the small packs for Maritiema and Valencia. Melody has a different size range from 40 mm to 70 mm. For the rest it is 40 mm to 65 mm. The majority of table potatoes are stored and delivered by growers in crates.

Table potato prices €8 to €9 higher
The results of the table potato varieties are also higher than last season. For example, the price of Nicola is more than €9 higher, that of Melody €8,60 and Laudine €8,30. The latter is a breed to which Schaap has the exclusive right. The same goes for Aromata.
Schaap Holland has its own peeling company in Biddinghuizen. In addition, potatoes are supplied to retail, export markets and French fries factories. "We noticed a clear growth in sales, especially in the retail market, even after the corona crisis," says potato director Hans Geling. "This is in contrast to European developments. A direct relationship with professional Dutch table potato growers is therefore highly desirable."
More interest in pool
The total pool volume for the coming season will grow at Schaap Holland. "For both the table potato and the industry pools (without presale) it is still possible to register at the moment," says Geling. This will probably increase the total pool volume even further. Schaap is positive about the coming harvest with clear growth in various markets such as retail, seed potatoes, chips and export. The biggest challenge at the moment is to pass on the higher costs to the customer, but in a strong chain with the right quality we will certainly get there."
