The export of Dutch ware potatoes is running considerably better than last season. Exports within Europe in particular are much higher. Export destinations outside Europe have declined as much to date as in 2021.
This is evident from the export figures of the Dutch Potato Organization (NAO). A total of 64.031 tons of consumer and industrial potatoes were exported in September. This brings the total for the new season to 180.307 tons. This means that exports are almost 40.000 tons, or 28%, ahead compared to the same period last year. At that time, the total export was 140.387 tons of potatoes. It is striking that countries within the European Union are especially crazy about Dutch potatoes.
Belgians love Dutch potatoes
Exports within the European Union increased in September by 42.074 tonnes to a total of 134.569 this season. Last year, the total up to and including September was 99.445 tons of potatoes. Belgium is mainly responsible for the high export this season. The Belgians already purchased a total of 93.094 tons of potatoes, compared to almost half last season with 51.731 tons. Belgium is followed by France, which purchased 14.274 tons of potatoes, compared to 8.306 tons in 2021. Only exports to Germany are disappointing with 13.271 tons at the moment compared to 28.722 tons last season. Other countries such as Spain, Italy but also Romania have also purchased more so far than in 2021.
Exports to other continents are virtually the same as last season. Africa decreases slightly more, mainly thanks to Senegal. This country is already good for 7.461 tons this season, while last season it imported only 438 tons of potatoes until September. The total in Africa is 7.461 tons of spuds. A total of 15.141 tons were shipped to America. 1.862 tons of potatoes went to the rest of Europe and Asia has so far purchased 992 tons of potatoes.
