Starch producer Royal Avebe pays their members a performance price of €98,56 over the year 2021-2022. This is a slightly higher amount than the cooperative had previously taken into account. A year earlier, Avebe paid €93,30 per ton of potatoes.
During the interview the (then new) CEO David Fousert said at the end of last year that a target performance price of €95 per tonne had been set. The result achieved is therefore €3,56 above that. This financial indicator of the cooperative must increase to at least €100 per tonne of potatoes in the next two years.
Highest Achievement Award
De performance price experienced a dip in 2020-2021 at €93,30 per tonne. The latest result has surpassed the previous best result of €96,63. This is also necessary given the increase in costs and fluctuating yields that growers have to deal with.
The performance price includes the campaign price and performance components (the potato money) minus transport costs and plus the cooperative result. For 2020/21, the campaign price was €75 per tonne and the performance components combined to €10,36. For this harvest year, the campaign price has been increased to €78. That was €65 per tonne. So an increase of 20%. Royal Avebe pays this amount for potatoes with 19% starch and delivered within the A volume. A different price applies to the B and C volumes.
Starch yield is picking up
For each percent of extra starch (above 19%), the grower receives a €5 'premium' per tonne. In the 2020/21 campaign, the average percentage was 20,37% starch. The potato yield has fluctuated considerably per campaign since 2017. There was a significant dip in 2018/19. Revenue did recover in the three following campaigns. What that will be like in 2022 remains to be seen.
