André Broeze, chairman of the Potato Growers Committee (ATC), is satisfied with the results achieved by the pool. The off-shore pool works with pre-sales and the start of the season was doubtful according to Broeze. "The European potato area turned out to be larger than expected and the spring was also favorable for the growth of the potatoes," Broeze said in a telephone explanation. "This was also clearly reflected in the futures market, which slowly declined and reached its lowest point at the end of June. The average quote on the PotatoNL even briefly dropped to €16 per 100 kilos in July. After that, the drought took hold on the market and made prices are going up.”

At the start of the pool, Aviko assumed a total size of approximately 32.000 tons. This ultimately turned out to be smaller due to the drought. "The vast majority of participants in the off-shore pool come from sandy soil in the eastern half of the Netherlands. The drought has had a significant impact there. The yield on sand is on average approximately 10% lower than where we were at the beginning of the season. were counting on," according to Broeze. The underwater weight was on average very high. "As far as I can estimate, this did not lead to additional damage and was beneficial for the processing yield of the potatoes."
