The potato processing industry is continuing at a good pace. The processing figure for November is above average, but does not break any records, according to the figures published by the Association for the Potato Processing Industry (Vavi) today (Thursday 15 December).
In November, 327.300 tons of potatoes were processed into pre-fried fries and other products. That is a step back compared to last year when 339.200 tons of potatoes were processed. Compared to last October, 13.500 fewer tons were processed. This also makes sense because the supply of potatoes from the field dries up in November. If we compare the processing figure of November 2022 with the five-year average, almost 9.000 more tonnes have been processed. Of the processed potatoes, 97.500 tons or 29,8% came from abroad. In November last year, that percentage was 32,1%.
In November, 145.300 tons of pre-fried fries were produced and 30.100 tons of other frozen potato products. The processing yield was therefore 53,6%, 1 percentage point higher than the five-year average.
