The export of consumption potatoes continues to gain steam, just like in recent months. It is mainly Europe, and in particular Belgium, that imports a lot of Dutch potatoes. In total, not so many tonnes crossed the border in the last 5 years.
73.549 tons of ware potatoes were exported in November. This brings the total export figure for this season to 325.163 tonnes, the highest export figure in the past five years. Just like in other years, Europe has the largest share of this, but this year exports within European borders are booming. Up to and including November, 226.983 tons were exported to Europe, more than 52.000 tons more than last year.
Belgians love Dutch potatoes
With a total of 153.814 tons, Belgium is mainly responsible for the export figures. The Belgians even purchased 56.000 tons more potatoes than last season, or 57%. France also purchases a third more than last year with 21.095 tons. What is also striking is that Germany only purchases 20.423 tons, half of what it was at this time last year. Other countries such as Spain, Portugal, Italy, but also Eastern Europe have imported more and are on the market earlier.
Exports to the rest of Europe and other continents are approximately in line with other years. 61.319 tons were exported to Africa. It is striking that Senegal already has 21.010 tonnes this year, almost double the quantity of last season in the same period. Mali actually purchased half less than last year and is at 7.626 tonnes. To date, 29.778 tons have been exported to America.
