The potato processing industry is certainly not slowing down in processing the potatoes into chips and other products. Only twice before have more potatoes been consumed in a month of March than in the previous month of this year.
350.700 tons of potatoes were processed in March, according to data from the Association for the Potato Processing Industry (Vavi). That is 11.300 tons more than in March last year and even an extra 16.300 tons compared to February this year. Total processing so far this season amounts to 2.683.500 tons. This means that the processing of the 2022 harvest is slightly ahead of that of the years 2016 and 2017.
Of the potatoes processed in March, a third came from abroad: 116.700 tons. That is 1.900 tons less than in the same period last year. A total of 159.500 tons of pre-fried chips and 31.100 tons of other products were made. The processing yield is therefore 54,3%
