In April, the Dutch industry processed 346.100 tons of potatoes, according to figures published today by the Association for the Potato Processing Industry (VAVI). That is 4.600 tons less than in March and 9.500 tons less than in April 2023. The five-year average for April is 314.800 tons, so April 2023 is well above that. Of the potatoes processed last month, 121.700 tons came from abroad. Last April this was 128.400 tons.

High efficiency
The processing industry produced 160.900 tons of fried chips and 28.800 tons of other products. The processing efficiency is therefore 54,8%. That is relatively high for this period of the year. In total, Dutch chip bakers processed 3.029.600 tons of potatoes this season. That's not quite a record. Only slightly more potatoes were processed in the 2017/18 season, at 3.039.300 tons.
