The potato processing industry is eagerly awaiting the new harvest. Last week we already reported about Agria on the DCA Transaction App for €60 per 100 kilos and today Belgapom came up with the first quotation for the early potatoes of this season at a historically high level.
Belgapom is kicking off with a price of €50 per 100 kilos for the first potatoes of the 2023 harvest year. These are machine-harvested potatoes suitable for fries 35 for immediate delivery. The mood on the market is stable (supply equals demand), Belgapom writes in the explanation of the listing.
Last Tuesday, PCA/Fiwap offered a price of €60 for early potatoes for processing and peeling companies. PCA writes in the explanation that the supply of Flemish early potatoes with sufficient size and quality is minimal. Processors are turning to potatoes from countries such as Germany or Spain due to the limited availability in Flanders according to PCA.
Farm Trans drives to France
How many potatoes are brought from Southern Europe is a matter for discussion almost every year. Transport company Farm Trans provides a glimpse of the veil. On LinkedIn, the company writes that it has already transported 22.000 tons of early potatoes from the south of France to the Benelux for processing by the Belgian and Dutch industry. The potatoes were transported from France by refrigerated trucks after which they were transferred to hoppers in Lommel (Belgium).
