Harvesting potatoes is no longer possible, to put it mildly, since we hardly had any dry days in mid-October. The processing of potatoes has not suffered much from this, as the processing figures for October show.
In October, 362.500 tons of potatoes were processed into pre-fried fries and other products, according to new figures from the Association for the Potato Processing Industry (Vavi). In September 334.200 tons were processed and in October last year 340.800 tons. The last time more potatoes were processed in a month than last October was in October 2019. Over the past twelve months, 4.024.600 tons of potatoes were processed.
Of the processed potatoes, 135.300 tons came from abroad. In proportion, the share of imported potatoes is almost the same as last year, namely 37,3% last October compared to 37,5% in October 2022. 160.100 tons of pre-fried fries were made and 30.600 tons of other frozen potato products. The processing efficiency is 52,6%.
