Nedato makes a unique additional payment on the pool without pre-sales for the 2022 season for all chip varieties. The turbulent end of the 2022/23 season will have a positive ending for the participating growers just before the holidays.
Participants in the Nedato pool without pre-sales receive a supplementary payment of €2 per 100 kilos. This brings the average pool results across all varieties at Nedato to €32 per 100 kilos. The reason for the exceptional back payment is the remarkable end of the 2022/23 season. The pool without pre-sales will be settled in early July. Not all potatoes have been sold yet. Nedato therefore calculates the realized result in sales up to and including the end of May plus an estimate of the remaining stock. Small deviations are settled in the following year's pool. A common method that has been used for decades.
Nice stroke of luck
When the pool price was compiled last May, prices increased from €40 to €50. The stock that still had to be sold at that time was valued on the cautious side. Almost no one had anticipated that prices would rise to €60 and more. The large deviation between the estimated price and the realized price is reason for Nedato to make a subsequent payment. "That is a nice windfall that we have achieved for our growers," says Wim van de Ree. "With a yield of 50 tons, this amounts to an additional €1.000 per hectare."
