Germany raises the potato market to over 30 euros

26 January 2024 - 5 comments

The Innovator variety dominates price-wise with a quotation of €33. Varieties such as Agria and Fontane and Challenger are quoted at €30 per 100 kilos. Naturally, the market prices and thus the quotations in the surrounding countries also follow, which are now lagging behind the quotations in Germany. Notable this week is the Belgapom quotation on Friday, January 26, where Fontane remains unchanged at €25. The general conclusion is that the potato market in 2024, with only 1 month left, feels very fixed. Normally, with the holidays just behind us, the market is rolling into the new year. This season is clearly different. It is exciting to see what the route will be for the coming weeks and months. It seems clear that the potato market can reach an even higher level. In that sense, just look at the futures market quote of the April 2024 contract, which rose towards €4 at the end of week 37. This brings the €40 level into the picture.
