The top, or perhaps better said, the top of the old harvest potato market seems to have been reached. With emphasis on 'seems', since you can never substantiate such a statement. After all, the potato is round and you never know which way it might roll.

However, on average more has been paid this season than last year. However, the step to €70 per 100 kilos for a chip variety such as Fontane is not reported. The highest known price level for Fontane is €65, but some volume to be delivered is desirable.

Stagnation in the rising trend of market prices can also be seen in the various quotations in the EU-4 countries. The German Reka odds for week 26 were unchanged from the previous week, from €62,50 for Fontane to €64,50 for Markies. The quotations also remained unchanged in Belgium and France.

For the second year in a row, the market is ending the year at exceptional price levels, to which you would almost become accustomed. Basically, the hunger for raw materials due to all the expansions of the processors is such that if there is any stagnation in the supply, the market can make strange leaps. In this sense, the development of the European area is lagging behind demand. If an unforeseeable situation arises (potatoes simply grow in the open air, no spreadsheet can help with that) - as has been the case for two seasons in a row now - then the market price will go through the roof.

There is also a lot of uncertainty regarding the further course of the season
There is also a lot of uncertainty regarding the further course of the 2024/25 season; the start of the growing season is particularly difficult. In general, the crops in the EU-4 countries are in poor to poor condition in some situations, except for the good plots! What will be the effect if a long summer period is coming, and then we are not even thinking about the harvest period. In short, a market full of tension that will continue until after the harvest period. The vote means that the Innovator delivery March/April 2025 currently costs up to €42 per 100 kilos from the grower. For Fontane that is a few euros less.
