Royal Avebe has set the basic price for the A-volume for the 2024 growing year at €105 per tonne of potatoes. This is more than 10% higher than the previous growing year. The cooperative food group from Veendam sees good opportunities in the market.
The basic price for cultivation in 2024 is set at 19% starch and a member surcharge of €5 per tonne. In absolute terms, the price is €10 higher than the basic price of €95 per tonne for the 2023 growing year. The campaign price, the final price after the end of the potato campaign, amounted to €100 per tonne last year. Avebe is now already €5 above that. The cooperative will announce the campaign price for the 2024 harvest in May 2025. The harvest, the sales prices for potato starch and protein, and developments in the world determine how high the final campaign price will be, Avebe said.
Demand for products is increasing globally
Avebe reports in the statement that it has good prospects for the market, with the implementation of the Strengthen and Accelerate strategy already showing positive effects, according to the company. The company emphasizes the added and distinctive value of their potato starch and potato protein products. And the demand for those products is increasing again after a difficult period of global recession. "Avebe is committed to increasing earning power for its members."
For growers, 2024 was the second wet spring in a row. There are major differences between the regions in the emergence and growth stage of the starch potatoes. In general, the crops are in good shape, concludes Avebe.
