With the approaching harvest season in sight, it is once again time to think about the application of Crown M.H in potatoes. This sprout inhibitor plays a crucial role in the storage of potatoes, where correct application not only improves the quality of the potatoes, but also ensures peace during the storage period. However, to achieve the maximum effect of Crown MH, it is essential that the drug is administered at the right time.
Determining the right time to spray Crown MH is a crucial step in the process of germination inhibition. For the best results, there should be at least three weeks between spraying and foliage killing, with a period of five weeks being considered optimal. This gives the crop sufficient time to effectively absorb the product and develop the desired sprout-inhibiting effect.
The ideal time to spray comes after flowering is over, when active foliage growth is no longer taking place and the crop is starting to ripen. It is important to be patient and wait until these conditions are reached to ensure that Crown M.H can do his job. Too early application can result in reduced effectiveness, which can cause problems later during storage of the potatoes.
Crop vitality: a condition for success
Not all potato plots are suitable for the application of Crown MH. Only vital crops that are in good condition are able to optimally absorb the product. Stressful conditions, such as drought or disease pressure, can hinder sap flow in the crop, leading to reduced uptake of Crown MH. Growers should therefore monitor their plots closely and only spray on healthy, non-stressed crops.
Dealing with high temperatures
Another important factor to take into account is the temperature at the time of spraying. Crown M.H is absorbed less effectively when the crop is not actively growing, for example at temperatures above 25°C. In such circumstances it is better to postpone spraying until the evening hours, when temperatures have dropped. This gives the crop the opportunity to better absorb the product and transport it to the places where it has to do its work. If a period of prolonged heat is approaching, it is advisable to postpone spraying further until temperatures have normalized again.
Design
Dog Crown M.H at a dosage of 11 liters per hectare. The most optimal time of application is 3-5 weeks before the expected foliage kill. Only apply Crown MH to a healthy and vital crop. After spraying it must be dry for 10 hours.
