The Dutch potato processors have done well last month. If you compare the price development - from low €20s to over €30 - you might have expected more.
In January, the Dutch industry processed 333.300 tons of potatoes, according to figures published today by the Association for the Potato Processing Industry (Vavi). This puts last month nicely close to the five-year average of 331.860 tons. Last January, 321.600 tons were processed, 3,6% less than last month, while the processing the year before came to 360.700 tons.
Processors did use a lot more Dutch potatoes than in January last year. Of the potatoes processed in January, 106.300 tons came from abroad, compared to 106.700 in January 2024. The industry produced 151.500 tons of pre-fried chips and 26.100 tons of other products. The processing yield is therefore 53,3%. That is slightly lower than the five-year average of 53,5%.
