On the potato futures market, the April contract is being sold in the style of the last few months. Today (Thursday 24 April) the EEX announced the cash settlement (CS) on which the still open positions will be settled.
It will not come as a surprise to those who follow the potato market a little, but the CS also took a step back this week and ended up at €14 per 100 kilos. That is €2,10 lower than last week. For Belgium, the EEX set the price at €11,85, Germany at €13,93 and the Netherlands at €18,38.
After €36,50 last year and €35,40 the year before, €14 is a bit of a disappointment for growers this time, especially when you consider that the CS was still above €30 at the end of February. If we look back a bit further, it is clear that peaks are often followed by deep valleys. The absolute low point was harvest year 2019 (the corona year) when the CS was at €2 in April. Since harvest year 2009, there have been seven years in which the CS was below €17 in week 10. On average, the CS for the settlement of the April contract is €16,16.
