There is actually a rather exceptional situation on the potato market. Belgium and Germany are more or less on the same page when it comes to a price for French fries. In France, the notaries have thrown in the towel and stopped compiling a price for French fries. The entire European potato market is in trouble. The entire potato market? No, one committee continues to bravely resist.
The Belgian and German quoters are in complete agreement about the lower end of the potato market this week. €10 for Fontane and between the lines it can be deduced that as a grower you almost have to say thank you that they are being picked up. That promises something for the coming weeks. In a market with so little trade it is not so strange that France no longer sets a price for chips potatoes. Table and export are still quoted. Potatoes for export (unwashed, 45mm+, delivered in big bags) are at €16 at RNM this week. Incidentally, France's contribution to the DCA EU-4 Potato Index is based on the latest RNM quote, up to a maximum of 3 weeks old.
Big difference
The Netherlands continues to deviate greatly from other European countries. Last week, the Netherlands kept the bottom at €12,50 and Agria even put €29 on the board at the top and the bottom at €18. For comparison: Reka put both Agria and Innovator at €15. The DCA EU-4 Potato Index this week comes out at €14,71 per 100 kilos. That is €1,54 lower than last week. The Index is still above the level of last autumn. However, the physical market has fallen below that last week.
