Avebe: more volume and higher campaign price

23 May 2025 - Wouter Baan

Avebe has increased the campaign price for the 2024 harvest to €115 per tonne. The upward trend, in a year in which more potatoes were processed than expected, makes the cooperative happy. Despite increasing geopolitical challenges due to the trade war, sales volumes and the associated prices can be called good. Avebe expects a further increase in processing volume for the coming campaign.

Compared to 2023, the campaign price (at 19% starch) has increased by €15. The slight price decrease that was visible in 2023 has thus been undone. Over the past five years, there has been a clear upward trend and a net price increase of almost 60% is visible.

Despite previously expressed concerns about the availability of starch potatoes, the campaign that has now ended also saw an increase in volume, without any specific tonnages being linked to this. "We have processed more potatoes than we had expected at the start of the campaign," the cooperative announced in a letter to the approximately 2.000 growers in the Netherlands and Germany.

The so-called B and C volumes have been settled at €75 and €60 per tonne respectively. Due to the netting arrangement, 25% of the delivered B volumes are still settled at the regular campaign price of €115. In addition, most growers are still eligible for an additional full delivery premium of €3. Including the quality and storage premiums, the payment price can increase to €151,56.

trade war
Avebe's financial performance is not yet known, as the financial year still runs until the end of July. The cooperative starch potato group reports that there is increasing uncertainty due to the trade war, but despite this, the sales prices and volumes have been good so far. According to the company, this is due to the new strategy, in which the focus has shifted to products with added value in the higher segment.

Campaign 2025
The start of the 2025 campaign went smoothly and almost all potatoes are now in the ground. Just like in 2024, registration for the A volume is again higher, which makes the management very satisfied in times of concerns about sufficient raw material supply. However, the letter expresses the hope that significant precipitation will soon fall to maintain growth.
