For seed potatoes (size 28 upwards, autumn delivery including premiums) growers receive €95,20 per 100 kilos. For consumption potatoes (size 35 upwards, delivery week 3) this is €77,50 per 100 kilos. Due to the wet and cold spring and the poor soil structure, the crop emerged poorly and unevenly in 2024. Later, phytophthora caused additional damage. This led to lower yields and finer sorting, with large differences between varieties and regions.

Next Generation Breeds
Storage was generally problem-free for both seed and consumption potatoes. Dormancy was average and tuber phytophthora was rare. "Our Next Generation variety Twister stood out positively in the quality assessments, and Levante also showed good storage properties," says Marnix Wilms, team manager of BioSelect in a press release.

The unusual growing season caused shortages immediately after harvest, which initially drove up prices considerably. Demand remained strong until March, but then the market weakened and prices fell. "Nevertheless, we were able to sell all the potatoes in the right market segments," says Bioselect.

Current growing season
The 2025 growing season has started well with an early planting period, smooth emergence and average tuber formation. Growth is going well and on some plots the potatoes are almost the right size. "Check the size sorting regularly; growth is fast", advises Wilms. The outlook is positive. "The season is completely different from last year", he says. This week the first table potatoes are being harvested under plastic, while the last batches of the old harvest are also going to the retail.
