Last season, Indian potato growers harvested 60,18 million tons of potatoes, which is a new record. In the previous season, it was 57,5 million tons, which is an increase of 4,66%. Good for 2,68 million tons. For comparison: that is equal to the total production of Denmark.

Two seasons
India has three seasons for potatoes. Most crops are grown during the Rabi season, which lasts from October to December. The climate is then moderate. Depending on the region, potatoes are also grown during the Kharif season, which covers July and August.

Potatoes have become a popular crop in the country and account for a significant share of vegetable production. The total vegetable production last season was 219,67 million tons, which is 6% more than the previous season. The growing season for potatoes has been favorable, but the area also helps. The total vegetable production increased to 29,26 million hectares, compared to 29,08 million hectares before.

Considerably more onions
Onions are another important crop. Their production rose to 30,77 million tons, an increase of 6,5 million tons or 27% more.
