Avebe base price higher than last year

2 July 2025 - Linda van Eekeres - 1 reaction

Royal Avebe has set the basic price for the A-volume starch potatoes for the 2025 growing year. This is higher than the previous growing year. "Despite the many uncertainties in the world, we are able to continue the upward trend in the basic price," says Avebe CEO David Fousert.

The basic price for the A-volume this growing year is €110 per ton of potatoes at 19% starch and including a member surcharge of €5 per ton. This is almost 5% higher than the €105 per ton for growing year 2024. The campaign price last growing year was €115 per ton. Avebe will announce the campaign price for this growing year after the end of May 2026, after the potato campaign.

"Despite the many uncertainties in the world, we are succeeding in continuing the upward trend in the basic price," says David Fousert, CEO of Royal Avebe, which has 2.000 members in the Netherlands and Germany, in a press release. As examples of uncertainties, he mentions: global geopolitical tensions, fluctuations in the euro/dollar exchange rate and import duties in the US. "We have no influence on many of these developments, but they do affect Avebe. Thanks to our 'Strengthen and Accelerate' strategy, we are more flexible and stronger. That gives us the space to set a higher basic price even in these circumstances."

The starch potatoes have grown rapidly, partly due to the early spring. In both the Netherlands and Germany, the crops are about ten days ahead of the average growing season, according to Avebe, which closely monitors the growth and development of the crops with trial harvests.

Yesterday (1 July) Avebe provided the members' council with information about the 'Strengthen and Accelerate' strategy. According to the cooperative, this will result in 'clear progress'. According to her, there are various promising developments in new applications of Avebe's products. The area of starch potatoes for Avebe is also growing slightly, particularly in Germany (as expected by Avebe).
