Potato growers in Bavaria, in particular, contributed to the larger harvest compared to 2024. The area there increased by more than 14%, and yields rose by around 9%. Per hectare yields in this state rose by 45,8 tons, the highest level since 2014. This resulted in a total harvest of 1,9 million tons.

Lower Saxony is by far the state with the most potatoes. The area there increased by 4,6% to almost 140.000 hectares. Combined with a 3% yield increase to 47,2 tons per hectare, this resulted in a production of 6,6 million tons.

The northernmost state bordering the Netherlands thus accounts for almost half of all potatoes in Germany. The total German harvest, according to the final estimate, amounts to 13,87 million tons. The area is set at 301.000 hectares and the yield per hectare at 45,96 tons. In 2024, an average of 45 tons per hectare was harvested. The five-year average is 43 tons per hectare.
