The immediate cause of the strike was the dismissal of an employee. According to French media, there have been ongoing disputes between staff and management. Employees want to regain the respect they once enjoyed, the unions FGTB and CSC stated in the media.

Roger & Roger is owned by the Dick family from West Flanders. The company has been producing potato and corn-based chips since 1999 and employs approximately 350 people. Since 2004, the manufacturer has been producing chips under the Croky brand. However, the majority of its production consists of making chips for private labels.

The chip manufacturer could not be reached for comment on the employee strike. Last October, French fry manufacturer Clarebout (now Simplot) had a conflict with its employees. The workers went on strike for several weeks because they wanted to profit from the sale of Clarebout to the American food group Simplot.
