Normally, the potato campaign ends at the end of February. However, the 2025 harvest yielded a very large crop. Avebe therefore decided at the end of last year to extend the campaign until mid-March.

Following the autumn inventory, the potato processor announced that all potatoes would be collected from the members. For potatoes exceeding the delivery entitlement or obligation of 3,8 to 5 tonnes of starch per share – the so-called C-potatoes – the group pays €1 per ton, excluding performance components such as starch content, quality, and tare.

Turned well and stably
Although the potato starch factories in the Netherlands and Germany operated well and stably according to Avebe, the group still needed more time to process all the potatoes. This was not due to the quality of the raw material, which, according to Avebe, was of a good standard. The starch content of the potatoes comes in at around 20%.

The 2025 growing season was characterized by an abundant supply of potatoes on the European market. Avebe also noticed this development: in total, more volume was processed this year than average. All potatoes declared by members within the delivery conditions (A, B, and C volumes) during the autumn inventory have been fully collected and processed, Avebe confirms.

Campaign completed in phases
In Germany, the last potatoes were processed in week 11. In the Netherlands, supplies continued until last weekend. With this, the campaign in both countries has concluded and the so-called inter-campaign period begins. During this period, Avebe carries out maintenance on the factories and preparations are made for the new growing season. Incidentally, some of the production sites remain operational year-round, as do the commercial activities related to potato starch and potato protein.

Base price and campaign price
The final campaign price for the 2025 growing season will be announced at the end of May. For the 2024 harvest, that price amounted to €115 per ton. A base price for the 2025 harvest was already set last year. That price has been increased by €5 to €110 per ton compared to the 2024 harvest.
