Over the last two months, the quotation largely disappears. In March, a single price is set at €1 per 100 kilos; for the rest of the month, there is no quotation. April shows a similar picture, with a quotation of €0,00 for three weeks. The month ends again without a price due to a lack of transactions, coinciding with the end of Potato Week.

The situation in the Netherlands is similar. PotatoNL published a quotation earlier this week, but there will be no quotation this coming Monday. Due to King's Day, a stable market, and limited input, no quotations will be issued that week.

In France, market analysts at the Ministry of Agriculture have been unable to determine a price for Fontane and Innovator throughout the entire season. RNM reports only one quotation for Innovator in October 2025 and one for Fontane in December 2025. In both cases, it concerns €3 per 100 kilos; otherwise, prices are completely missing.

In Germany, Reka Rheinland continues to be recorded, despite the low price levels. Fontane stabilizes at €0,50 per 100 kilos. Innovator is quoted at €3 per 100 kilos, placing it above Agria. That variety held its ground at €7 per 100 kilos until the end of January, but has since dropped to €2,50 per 100 kilos.

In the Netherlands and Belgium, extensive campaigns were held last week to bring the potato to the attention of consumers. Organizations also want to contribute to selling as many potatoes as possible now that hundreds of thousands of tons are unsaleable.

Poland also has a surplus
It is not only the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Germany that are dealing with surpluses. Poland is facing this problem as well. Various media report that there is still no buyer in that country for 700.000 to 1 million tons. This amounts to more than a tenth of the harvest, which totaled 7 million tons in 2025.

Production in Poland turned out to be over 1 million tonnes higher than in 2024. The Polish Ministry of Agriculture cites this as the cause of the surplus, but last year's harvest in Poland was not particularly exceptional. In previous years, the Poles have also harvested more potatoes than in 2025.
