Beet campaign almost over

3 January 2019 - Kimberly Bakker

The 2018/2019 beet campaign is nearing its end. At the moment, about 5% of the beets still have to be processed. Cosun reported this on its website on Thursday 3 January.

Cosun has announced that it expects the last sugar beets to be supplied to Vierverlaten on Tuesday 8 January. For the location in Dinteloord, that expectation will come out on Wednesday 9 January.

Sugar content and tare percentage
The sugar content last week averaged 17,4%. It is striking that in the regional figures not many outliers. The GroningenBRD region shows the highest average sugar content (18,6%) over the entire beet campaign (so far) and the lowest figure is for the regions of Central Brabant (clay), Zuid-Holland (solid), Maas&Meierei and Southern Flevoland. . These 4 regions come to a sugar content of 16,8%.

The tare percentage was 10,8% last week. Again, the differences are not very large. The highest percentage in the entire campaign (so far) is for the regions of Kop van Zuid-Holland and Noord-Holland Midden (10,8%) and the lowest is for Graafschap/Achterhoek (6,8%). The average adds up Cosun out at 8,3%.

The estimated campaign averages result in a carrot weight of 76,2 tons per hectare, a sugar content of 17,4%, a tare percentage of 8,6% and a WIN number of 89,9. Although Cosun does let it be known that the actual final figures may turn out to be slightly different.
