Eqraft (formerly ERC Machinery) is well known in the potato market and onion world as a producer of grading and packaging machines. The share is so large that 3 onion processors have started a 'crowdfunding campaign' to help the company recover.
"Eqraft applied for a postponement of payment this month, which was converted into bankruptcy on Tuesday 15 January," says Bas van Dijen, curator of Okkerse & Schop Advocaten. "We are working on a restart and I hope to be able to say more about this soon."
Crowdfunding
Meanwhile, 3 onion processors have put their heads together to help the company, website reports AGF† It concerns Wiskerke Onions, Arjazon and Franje Onions. It is estimated that more than 100 companies worldwide use Eqraft's machines. The deadline for the promotion ends on Thursday 17 January. There are reportedly already commitments from companies in the sector.
Optical sorting
In recent years, the company has invested a lot of energy in developing an electronic sorting machine for onions. According to initiators of the crowdfunding campaign, this is partly the cause of the current situation. Eqraft developed this unique machine together with the Onion Tech Alliance, where Boerenbusiness already over in 2017 wrote.
One of the companies that stuck their neck out and started working with optical sorting is MSP Onions from Nieuwdorp (Zeeland). There was a story about this in the Boerenbusiness Onion analysis from last fall. MSP onions is not an initiator of the action.
