The carrot market shows a mixed picture in week 18. The bottom of the market is climbing again somewhat as the end of the season is gradually coming into view. This ensures that the DCA quotation Peen shows a plus for this week.
The average quotation for B-carrot increases by €1,50 to €29,50 per 100 kilos. DCA reports a price range of €24 to €35 per 100 kilos, which amounts to an increase of €2 at the bottom and an increase of €1 at the top. The price for coarser C-carrot is increasing, as is last week, with €0,75 and amounts to €32,25 per 100 kilos. Here too the bottom climbs by €2. Carrots increase from €2 to €30 per 100 kilos, ex works.
From a trade perspective, one party speaks of 'good, continuous trade', while the other is relatively calm. With the expectation that the trade in Dutch carrots will continue for a number of weeks and with the knowledge that there is enough carrot in storage, the decision moment for the long-term storers is getting closer.
Holiday spoilsport
On the export market, exporters are somewhat affected by the holidays in various countries, such as Labor Day on Wednesday, May 1. The volume of Spanish carrots that will enter the market is slowly increasing. It is also expected that French carrot will become available on the market within a few weeks.
According to the exporters, it appears that prices will remain at the same level in the coming week, but after that it will be interesting to see what the price will do, especially for the finer grades.
