The thunderstorms caused very large amounts of precipitation locally on Sunday 19 May. Up to 80 millimeters fell in a relatively short time. However, the west and north of the country received no rain at all in most places.
The fledgling crops are all craving a shower. There was little rainfall in April and May is also relatively dry. Some areas have had hardly any rain, up to a maximum of 50 millimeters in the east of the country.
Local showers
Due to the very local character of the showers, which sometimes involved a lot of hail, it is difficult to give a clear picture. For example, the precipitation map in Flevoland hardly registers any rain, while in reality up to 30 millimeters fell in Eastern Flevoland.
The region around Peer in Belgium was hit hard. There fell up to about 75 millimeters of precipitation. Also northeast of Eindhoven it was a good hit. Streets were flooded due to the heavy rain. In southern Germany there was also local flooding as a result of heavy showers, which can also continue on Monday 20 May. 150 millimeters has already fallen there.
Crop tour plots
The diversity of precipitation is also noticeable on the Crop tour plots† The potato plot in Biddinghuizen received 25 millimeters of precipitation, while in Zeewolde barely 1 millimeter fell. The plots in Zeeland got a few millimeters and some rain fell in the east as well.
It is not yet clear whether the downpours have caused damage to the crops. The crops will probably have to make do with Sunday's precipitation. The rest of May looks dry for the time being. Only a small amount of precipitation is forecast at the end of the month. View the weather forecast at plot level with Agroweather.
Also on the plots of the Crop Tour quite a bit of rain. See here how much precipitation has fallen on the plot near you.
