The trade in new carrots from Limburg has started. The price has fallen since last week and trading is not wild. This is because there is little trade in free carrots. The old carrot no longer plays.
The price for new B-carrot started last week at approximately €25 per 100 kilos, but that price has now dropped to €18 to €20 per 100 kilos (ex Limburg). Although there is quite a bit of free carrot in Limburg, there is still little free trade. The buyers limit themselves to the contracts.
Since the trade cannot yet properly dispose of the carrot that is under contract, they are waiting to purchase the free carrot. This pushes the price of free carrots down towards the contract price. Growers go along with this, because they do not want this carrot to remain. The crop is also not very strong due to irrigation and the associated temperature fluctuations.

In addition, new supply from Zeeland is expected in about 2 weeks. More carrots have also been sown in Limburg. Together this creates pressure on the market. The C-carrot will arrive in approximately 10 days. The trade in old carrots is still about leftovers and low price levels.
