News Expansion in arable farming

Cosun and Avebe join data platform JoinData

2 July 2019 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

The arable cooperatives Cosun and Avebe joined JoinData on Monday 1 July. With this, the Wageningen data cooperative, which was first active in dairy farming, is expanding its membership base with arable farmers. "A secure data highway for arable farmers is now within reach," explains JoinData.

"The accession of Cosun and Avebe is a milestone for data cooperative JoinData. It will provide broader coverage in the agricultural sector," said Ton Loman, the chairman of the board of JoinData, in a statement. JoinData organizes the distribution of data in the food and agri sector. According to the organization, this promotes the exchange of data so that smart apps can be developed for use in arable farming and livestock farming.

Sener Celik, the director of JoinData, announced the joining of Cosun and Avebe a few weeks ago in an interview for Boerenbusiness TV† Dirk de Lugt, Cosun's chairman, considers membership essential for Cosun's members and companies in the statement. "Smart farming is necessary for a sustainable and efficient arable sector. Safe data distribution is a crucial precondition for this. JoinData facilitates this."

Entrepreneur remains owner
The starting point of JoinData is that the agricultural entrepreneur remains the owner of the data that he makes available and supervises its distribution. "Data use and data exchange are playing an increasingly important role in the chain and on the arable farms of the members of Avebe. JoinData makes it possible to link data flows, so that we can make even more efficient use of the available data," says Bert Jansen, the CEO of Avebe, know.

The JoinData cooperative is a collaboration between Agrifirm, CRV, EDI-Circle, FrieslandCampina and LTO Nederland. Rabo Frontier Ventures also joined JoinData in June 2018.
