Schouten does nothing with neonics report STAF

Minister Carola Schouten (Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality) is not going to withdraw the ban on neonicotinoids because of a report by the Agri Facts Foundation (STAF). The foundation previously stated that there is no link between bee deaths and the use of neonicotinoids.

STAF offered a petition on Tuesday 4 June and the research to the agricultural spokespersons of the House of Representatives. In it, the foundation stated, among other things, that the situation in the Netherlands is very different from that in Europe. The population size of the bees that forage in agricultural areas has also not declined since the use of neonicotinoids.

For Schouten, however, this research is no reason to challenge the ban on the use of neonicotinoids in open cultivation. The minister states that she has had the research assessed by researchers from Wageningen University, Naturalis and the EIS Foundation. According to them, the conclusions of Agri Facts insufficiently substantiated.
