Austria is the first to ban glyphosate

3 July 2019 - Anne Jan Doorn - 15 comments

Austria is the first European member state to ban the use of glyphosate. The country thus ignores European legislation, because it states that the drug may be used within Europe until 2020.

Tuesday evening July 2 It was already clear that Austria would like to introduce a glyphosate ban. A majority of parliament has now voted in favor of a ban. Members of parliament want to ban the drug as soon as possible, mainly because of the health risks it could cause.

Political game
A glyphosate ban has political undertones in the country. The country is currently led by a temporary government, which is made up of civil servants and not politicians. New elections are expected to be held in September. In the run-up to these elections, the political parties are trying to ensure that new laws and regulations are introduced before the summer recess.

The European Commission now has 3 months to challenge the ban. It can do this, as the ban could undermine the level playing field in the European Union.

Jan, Frisian,
service sector, it, communication are basic necessities.

A healthy environment, good food at a decent price, a beautiful landscape, no exotic mosquitoes etc. etc. etc. are purely secondary.
(let alone preventing disguised slavery and disguised child labour, deprivation of bread from developing countries, much more co2 worldwide, much more poison in our own food, instigating famine, contributing to deforestation, contributing to the accelerated extinction of thousands of animals and plant species: all far from my Randstad bed)

With working communication: as long as there is a window somewhere in the concrete environment in the Randstad, it is all right.

What do you think of using medicine that runs unpurified into the canals via urine, sewage, via the water purification plant. That is more than all plant protection products.
Skirt 6 July 2019
This sewage sludge will soon have to be spread across the country because of circular agriculture....

it says "first". Possibly not last. Just be ready. Grumbling doesn't help. The fishermen already know that.
