There is currently a demand for new carrots from Poland. This ensures that the new carrot in Limburg goes through fairly quickly. As a result, the price level remains stable.
The first DCA listing Peen is back on the board. A price of €15 to €16 per 100 kilos is quoted for the new B-carrot. That is a tad lower than the price level at which trading began. The price for the coarser C-carrot is €20 to €22 per 100 kilos.
Two factors play a major role on the market: on the one hand, growers fear that they will not be able to get rid of the carrots due to the larger acreage. In addition, the supply will increase in the short term now that the harvest is getting underway. On the other hand, demand improves as quality and size selection improve. It also remains exciting to what extent drought will play a role in the yields of the main harvest.
Poland is an important customer
At the moment, the demand for the new carrot from Poland is important. There we are still waiting for our own harvest, which will start in approximately 2 weeks. Traders are now trying to sell as much Dutch B-carrot there as possible. The supply in the Netherlands from Zeeland, but also North Holland and the polders will also start in about 2 weeks.
