Pressure on carrot market is slowly increasing

It is holiday time and that is noticeable at the carrot market. Sales are stagnating now that most European countries have enough of their own supply. This puts some pressure on prices, especially for large carrots.

Now that demand is limited, more than enough carrots come from the land. The heat has made way for more pleasant weather, with temperatures around 22 degrees and occasional showers. Yields of 65 to 70 tons per hectare are reported. This ensures that the limited demand can be easily met.

The contract trade is going well; carrots intended for the open market are more difficult to place. The sales markets within Europe are now quite self-sufficient. Sales to Poland have disappeared and our German neighbors are also hardly asking for carrots this year. Overseas exports, especially to Africa, are slowly picking up.

Lower price C-carrot
If this trend continues, further price pressure can be expected next week. This week the DCA quotation for B-carrot is €10 to €16 per 100 kilos, with an average price of €14. Trade in the coarse C carrot is more difficult, resulting in an average price of €13,50, also varying from €10 to €16 per 100 kilos.
