15 August 2019 - Jeannet Pennings - 2 comments

The Flevolands Agricultural Collective (FAC) is looking for 15 farmers who want to participate in the 'Akkerbelt Pilot'. The aim of the pilot is to gain experience with greening measures at regional level, as stated in the new Common Agricultural Policy. The focus is on the soil and biodiversity.

A list of measures has been compiled for the province of Flevoland to maintain healthy soil. While this pilot 15 Flevoland farmers can experiment with this list. Measures include the application of a broader crop plan, the cultivation of a protein crop, the application of non-inversion or shallow tillage, the supply of organic matter and the management of field margins.

In 9 arable regions
The FAC plays a pioneering role in the Akkerbelt Pilot. Eight other collectives are also participating, spread between the northeast and southwest of the Netherlands. In Flevoland, the focus is on a broadly supported package of measures that can be practically implemented, making participation possible for all Flevoland arable farmers. The FAC is developing a points system that values measures and stimulates certain combinations of measures.
