NVWA will monitor green resources in a targeted manner

23 August 2019 - Anne Jan Doorn - 1 reaction

From 2020, the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) will carry out risk-oriented checks on the sale of green plant protection products. These inspections will be done at the manufacturers and suppliers of these agents.

This concerns the products that are sold as so-called 'green products', but have not been approved for this by the Board for the Authorization of Plant Protection Products and Biocides (Ctgb). These include biostimulants, soil improvers and other products of natural origin. In many cases, these products fall under the definition of plant protection product, even if this is not claimed.

RUB resources
The NVWA will also monitor the sale of RUB resources. These are substances that are authorized on the basis of the Regulation on the exception of pesticides (RUB list). The risks of these agents have never been assessed and therefore do not comply with European legislation. These agents must still be assessed or withdrawn from the market.

As a government implementer, the NVVWA is already 5 years late with enforcement. Private garden owners are already ordering massively no approved chemical crop protection products via the internet without a spray license
