The price for carrots has again fallen slightly. There is no export within Europe, while there is more than sufficient supply here. What is currently happening on the carrot market?
The fact that there is little export within Europe is normal for this time of year. Most exports now go to Senegal and Mauritania. The big problem, however, is the supply, which is more than sufficient for the current demand. Another factor is that the first storage carrot will be on the market in about 3 weeks.
Due to the good weather, the carrot is growing so well that the first storage carrot is already starting to ripen. At these temperatures, this storage carrot will have to be processed immediately, which will increase the supply again. This is underlined by the fact that many storage carrots do not yet have a place in the refrigerator. However, problems with double-headedness have been reported in various places, which means that the tare is sometimes quite high.
Price drops slightly
The carrot price drops slightly in week 37. The DCA quotation for B-carrot is €9 to €13 per 100 kilos, which is €0,50 lower than last week. The price for C-carrot drops a little more and now amounts to €9 to €12 per 100 kilos (-€1 per 100 kilos). This is because there is virtually no trade in C-peen.
