Mouse eating plays a role in the carrot market

The carrot market is in a stable phase, with slight pressure being exerted on the price. On the one hand there is sufficient supply and exports are continuing well, but on the other hand mouse eating is increasingly mentioned as a point of concern.

Since there is sufficient supply of the carrot, buyers are waiting. They expect that when the storage carrot comes on the market (within 2 weeks), even more supplies of early carrots will be brought onto the market. Exports are still going well: from Zeeland to Belgium and mainly to Africa.

Yield expectations for the main harvest vary widely, although in general no top yield is expected. Mouse eating appears to play a serious role this season. Double-headedness, especially on heavier soils, is also frequently reported.

Slight decrease
The DCA quotation for B-carrot drops this week by €1 per 100 kilos to an average price of €10. The price range is €9 to €11 per 100 kilos. Most trade takes place at €10 per 100 kilos. The price for C-carrot drops by €0,50 to €10 per 100 kilos. The finer carrots are sold for slightly lower prices.
