Since it is very wet, carrots can hardly be harvested anywhere. This means that the supply is tight, so that the price for carrots rises slightly.
Some carrots can still be harvested in Zeeland, which means that a lot of carrots are currently taken from that province. There is demand not only from the Netherlands, but also from Belgium. Gradually there is also a bit more nervousness in the market, as the rain continues and no one knows what this wetness will do to the carrots.
The quality of the early carrots is reasonable. The consequences of these wet weather conditions have not (yet) been noticed. Some more damage is expected in the storage carrot. On the other hand, there is still fear of a large supply when it becomes drier.
Good overseas exports
Due to good overseas exports and the declining supply, the DCA quotation of carrot (both B-carrot and C-carrot) is increasing slightly. This brings the quotation to €11 per 100 kilos, with a range of €10 to €12 per 100 kilos. Slightly more is paid for coarser carrots than for fine carrots.
