There is currently little trade in carrots. The market is waiting for the offer, which is only slowly coming loose after 3 weeks of wet weather. This keeps the price stable for the time being.
If we go by the current weather forecasts, drier times are coming. This means that the harvest of storage carrots, which are currently only harvested on a very small scale, will reportedly start in earnest next week. It is therefore expected that the market situation will change in the short term.
The current supply seems just enough to meet demand. The cold stores are all reasonably stocked. A growing supply of carrots will inevitably cause price pressure. The question is not so much if that will happen, but when. The expected quality is still a question mark. Some brown spots appear here and there on the carrot and there are reports of mice being eaten, but in general no major problems have been reported yet. The coming weeks will reveal the effect of the heavy rainfall in recent weeks.
DCA listing fractionally lower
The supply shortage ensures that the current carrot price remains reasonably stable. The DCA carrot quotation this week is €10,50 per 100 kilos for both the B carrot and the C carrot. This means the price is €0,50 below last week's quotation. The range runs from €10 to €11 per 100 kilos. The price for lighter grades is slightly lower.
