Beet factory negotiations start

14 January 2020 - Anne Jan Doorn - 11 comments

The Belgian beet growers' cooperative CoBT has sufficient supply of beet for its new factory to be built. The equity targets were also met. However, the banks remain skeptical.

CoBT can have access to the supply of 1.625 million tons of beets per year, for at least 10 years. €134 million is also available in equity, including from 1.400 beet growers and 200 sympathizers. Investors have also pledged another 64 million.

The Walloon government is also positive about the construction of the factory. It has transferred €12 million in subsidy and all permits for the factory have been obtained. The only problem is that the banks are skeptical. More than €200 million in capital is still needed. That writes Farmlife.be.

Well Boerenbusiness Now do some journalism and make sure you talk to the banks in question to find out why they are skeptical. That is information that really benefits the agricultural Netherlands!
Banker 14 January 2020
I am not skeptical but I am especially under strong pressure from other sugar industries and also from french fries and vegetable factories. They don't want a new competitor and especially no farmers' cooperative.

Dear people,

Now that the sugar market is reviving, it will certainly succeed with "Sober Farming Sense"!
Many people hope from the bottom of their hearts that the project will be implemented as soon as possible!
Why shouldn't the Belgians be able to do that, they are the bravest among the Gauls..!
In Poperinge there will also be a new potato factory...!

With kind regards, the persistent wins...!

@Banker, You hit the nail on the head. The banks have to pay penalty interest because they do not invest enough. If such a project is over and they do not want to participate, it is because there are other customers of the bank who have a less profitable factory and therefore do not want competition. That is actually an extra motivation for the farmers to get this factory off the ground. Good luck.

Yes, see, there is a period and no comma
the grower 15 January 2020
It is the Rabobank that has its doubts about financing, according to cosun yesterday at the growers' meeting in friesland.
not 15 January 2020
@bep
They are also not nearly one and a half beet growers.
If you use a period as a comma, you have to do it consistently.
peer 15 January 2020
the typ miep could not find the coma hence

if they don't get money from the rabo they go to another bank
